Silo Builder

Silo Builder draws your site structure as boxes and lines. Connect pages to set parent pages, connect posts to categories and tags, and map internal links. It works without a Xagio account.

Go to Xagio > Silo Builder. There are three tabs:

  • Pages: physical silos. A line from one page to another makes it the parent.
  • Posts: posts connected to categories and tags.
  • Links: internal and external links between your content.
  1. Select Generate SILO from Website.
  2. On the Pages tab, choose Import Pages with connections (only pages that have a parent) or Import all Pages.
  3. Select Generate SILO.

On the Links tab, generating maps the internal and external links found in your content.

  • Drag pages, posts, categories or tags from the side lists onto the canvas, and draw lines between them.
  • Select New Page/Post to create one (permalink, status and type), then Create.
  • Select a box to edit its SEO title and description, with length counters (70/78 for titles, 300/120 for descriptions). Select Apply.
  • Add categories and tags with their + buttons.
  • Select a box or line and press Delete (or the Delete button) to remove it.
  • Use the arrow keys to move around the canvas. Canvas Settings sets line thickness, type, color and canvas size.

An item can only appear on one canvas at a time.

Select Save Pages, or press Ctrl+S. Saving updates WordPress: parent pages on the Pages tab, and categories and tags on the Posts tab.

The Permalink Settings panel on the Posts tab changes the site’s permalink structure, category base and tag base. Changing these changes your URLs, so set up redirects if pages are already indexed.

HARD Reset empties Silo Builder. It cannot be undone. It clears the silo drawings only: parent pages, categories and tags you already saved to WordPress stay as they are.
