Copy schema from another website and validate it

If a competitor or another of your sites already has good schema, you can copy it instead of building it from scratch. The Schema Duplicator reads the JSON-LD schema on any web page and saves the types you pick to one of your schema groups. You can then check any saved schema for errors.

  1. In the sidebar, under BUILD, select Schemas.
  2. Select Copy from a website. The Schema Duplicator window opens.
  3. In Website:, enter the full address of the page, for example https://www.example.com/services/.
  4. In Schema Name Prefix:, enter a short name. It is added to the names of the copied schemas so you can find them.
  5. In Save to Schema Group:, pick the group to save them to.
  6. Select Run Duplicator.
  7. The Schemas Detected! window lists the schema types found on the page. Tick the ones you want and confirm.

The copied schemas appear in your saved schemas list. Open them to change the details to your own, for example the business name, address and phone number.

  1. Open a saved schema, or select a group to check all its schemas together.
  2. Select Test. The Schema Validation window shows the results.

Results show:

  • Valid Schema(s) detected! when the code has no errors.
  • A warning for each field that “is optional but should be in Schema”.
  • An error for each field that “is required and it needs to be set in Schema” or “cannot be empty in Schema”.
  • No Schema(s) detected! when nothing could be read.

The validator checks schema syntax. It does not check Google’s rules for rich results. For that, paste the code (or the URL of a page that uses it) into Google’s Rich Results Test.

Copying and validating schema is free.

  • “Could not find any schemas in JSON LD format on the provided URL.” The page has no JSON-LD schema. Check the address, or try another page on the site.
  • “Failed to retrieve web page source. Please try again later.” Xagio could not load the page. The site may block automated requests or be down.
  • “You need to select some Schemas in order to proceed! Please try again!” Tick at least one schema type in Schemas Detected!.
  • “A problem occurred while trying to extract Schemas from the provided URL.” Try again. If it keeps failing, contact support.
  • “You first have to load a saved schema in order to Validate it.” Save the schema, or open a saved one, before testing.
  • “Failed to decode JSON response.” The validation service did not answer. Try again in a few minutes.
