Keyword data: volume, CPC, competition and rankings

Volume shows how many people search for a keyword each month. CPC shows what advertisers pay per click. Competition data shows how many pages target a keyword in their title (inTitle) and URL (inURL). Agent X needs volume and CPC for every keyword before it runs. You can also send keywords from a project to Rank Tracker.

  • Your site must be connected to your Xagio account.
  • You need enough Xags for the number of keywords. See What it costs.
  • Set your default language, country and Rank Tracker location in Location settings if you use the same ones each time.
  1. Open the project in Xagio > Project Planner.
  2. Choose the scope:
    • Whole project: Keywords > Get Volume & CPC.
    • One group: the group’s Actions menu, then Get Volume & CPC.
    • Only some keywords: select their rows first, then use either option.
  3. In Retrieve Volume & CPC, choose the Language and Country. The plugin asks whether to save your choice as the default.
  4. Check the cost line, for example “This action will cost you …”.
  5. Select Retrieve VOL & CPC.

The values fill in as the batch finishes. You can leave the page and come back.

Project Planner divides volume by the competition counts to give TR (Title Ratio, Volume / InTitle) and UR (URL Ratio, Volume / InURL). A higher ratio means more searches for fewer competing pages.

  1. Open the project in Xagio > Project Planner.
  2. Select Keywords > Get Competition, or Get Competition in a group’s Actions menu. Select keyword rows first to check only those.
  3. Choose the Language and Country.
  4. Check the cost line, then select Get Competition.

Values fill in as the batch runs in the background.

Cells are colored red, yellow or green using your conditional formatting rules. Change them in Manage > Conditional Formatting. See Conditional formatting in the panel for how the ranges work.

By default, Get Volume & CPC and Get Competition only check keywords with empty values, so you never pay twice for the same data by accident. Turn on refresh when you want current numbers for keywords you checked before.

Volume and CPC

  1. Open the Get Volume & CPC dialog for the project, a group or selected keywords.
  2. Turn on Refresh existing values?. The tooltip reads “By default, we only check VOL/CPC for keywords which are empty. Turn ON to also refresh existing VOL/CPC.”
  3. Check the cost line, then select Retrieve VOL & CPC.

Competition

  1. Open the Get Competition dialog.
  2. Turn on Refresh existing values? (“By default, we only check inTitle/inURL for keywords which are empty. Turn ON to also refresh existing inTitle/inURL.”)
  3. Select Get Competition.

When some keywords already have values, the dialog tells you how many, for example “You have N keywords with InTitle/InURL values and N without.”

You can add keywords to Rank Tracker straight from Project Planner. Results appear in Rank Tracker in the panel, and in the Rank column of your groups.

  1. Open the project in Xagio > Project Planner.
  2. Select Keywords > Track Rankings for the whole project, or Track Rankings in a group’s Actions menu. Select rows first to send only those.
  3. In Track Keyword Rankings, choose the search engine in Select Engine, then the Country and optional Location. The plugin asks whether to save each as your default.
  4. Check the cost line, then select Submit Keywords to Rank Tracker.

To stop tracking, tick Delete keywords rank from RankTracker? when you delete keywords, groups or a project. They are removed from Rank Tracker too.

  • Volume and CPC: 0.03 Xags per keyword, including when Refresh existing values? is on.
  • Competition: 0.02 Xags per keyword.
  • Adding a keyword to Rank Tracker: 0.03 Xags per keyword, per search engine.
  • Each rank check after that: 0.003 Xags per keyword. Daily tracking works out to about 0.09 Xags per keyword per month.

See What every action costs.

  • “Please select a language!”: pick a language in the dialog.
  • “All keywords have Volume and CPC. Click on refresh button to refresh values.”: every keyword already has data. Turn on Refresh existing values? to fetch it again.
  • “Something went wrong please select keywords again!”: close the dialog, reselect the keywords and try again.
  • “You do not have enough XAGS.”: add Xags or check fewer keywords.
  • “All keywords have Competition value. Please click on refresh keywords to refresh values.”: turn on Refresh existing values?.
  • “No keywords found!”: the project or group has no keywords yet.
