Install and connect the Xagio plugin in WordPress

Follow this page if you build your site in WordPress. The Xagio plugin adds SEO tools to WordPress. Connecting it to your Xagio account adds the site to the Cloud App and turns on the features that use Xagio data, such as Project Planner, Niche Hunter and Agent X.

If you build with Xagio Studio, you don’t need the plugin. See What Xagio Studio is.

  • You need a WordPress user with the Administrator role. Xagio screens are visible to administrators only.
  • The site must be reachable on the internet over https://.
  • Your server should meet these minimums: PHP 7.0 or later, memory_limit 64MB, post_max_size 8MB, upload_max_filesize 2MB, max_execution_time 15 seconds (or 0), max_input_vars 500, with OpenSSL, cURL, ZipArchive and DOMDocument available. Permalinks must be set to Post name or a custom structure.

The plugin Dashboard checks these requirements for you and offers a one-click fix for permalinks. See Set up the plugin: requirements, settings and Xags.

  1. In WordPress, go to Plugins > Add New Plugin.
  2. Search for Xagio.
  3. Select Install Now on the Xagio plugin, then Activate.

A Xagio menu now appears in the WordPress admin sidebar. You can also get the plugin from Download Plugin in the Cloud App, which links to the plugin on wordpress.org.

Use this if you don’t have a Xagio account yet.

  1. In WordPress, go to Xagio > Dashboard.
  2. Enter your email address and select Connect for Free Now.
  3. Xagio opens the sign-up page. Create your account. See Create your Xagio account.
  4. On the activation page, select Confirm & Activate.

When the connection works, the Dashboard shows Your Account is Connected and the email of your Xagio account.

  1. In WordPress, go to Xagio > Dashboard.
  2. Select Already Have An Account? Click Here To Connect It.
  3. Sign in to Xagio if asked.
  4. On the activation page, select Confirm & Activate.

If the panel can’t talk to the plugin directly, the activation page asks for your WordPress administrator Username and Password. Enter them and select Confirm & Activate again.

  • Select Access Dashboard in the plugin to open the Cloud App.
  • The site appears on the Websites page of the Cloud App. See The Websites list.
  • Set up the plugin’s settings and locations. See Set up the plugin.

From the Cloud App’s Websites page, you can also connect a site by entering its WordPress login (Xagio installs the plugin for you) or by uploading a CSV of sites. See Connect a WordPress site.

  • “You have reached your number of allowed installs. Please consider upgrading your membership.” Your plan’s website limit is reached. Remove a site you no longer use or change your plan.
  • “Your website is not reachable, make sure you have no errors on your website, or invalid index pages. Website returned HTTP Code: …” The panel could not load your site. Check that the home page loads without errors over https://, then try again.
  • “There was a problem while generating your API key!” The plugin could not create its connection key. Reload the Dashboard and try again.
  • The Cloud App says the plugin is deactivated, but it is active. In WordPress, go to Xagio > Xagio Settings > Troubleshooting and select Fix Common Issues. This re-syncs the keys between the plugin and the Cloud App. See Fix a site that shows as disconnected.
  • Refunded accounts cannot connect new sites. Choose a plan in Plans & Billing first.
