Publish with your own Cloudflare account
When you publish, you can have Studio create your domain’s DNS zone in your own Cloudflare account instead of Xagio’s. Use this for domains you already manage in Cloudflare. Sites on your own dedicated server must use this option.
Before you start
Section titled “Before you start”You need a Cloudflare account and permission there to create API tokens.
Create the API token in Cloudflare
Section titled “Create the API token in Cloudflare”- In Cloudflare, go to My Profile > API Tokens > Create Token > Create Custom Token.
- Give the token these permissions:
- Zone · Zone · Edit
- Zone · DNS · Edit
- Create the token and copy it.
Use an API token. A Global API Key, an R2 token (starts with cfat_) or a token ID won’t work.
Add the token in Studio
Section titled “Add the token in Studio”- Open your site in the editor and click Publish.
- Enter your domain and continue to How should we handle DNS?
- Choose Use my own Cloudflare account and click Add token.
- Paste the token under Your Cloudflare API token and click Save token.
Studio checks the token with Cloudflare before it saves it, and never shows it again. The option then shows a chip with the saved token’s short fingerprint. To change it later, click Replace token.
The token is saved on your Xagio account, so a token you already saved in the panel’s Hosting page also shows up here.
Finish publishing
Section titled “Finish publishing”- With Use my own Cloudflare account selected, click Continue.
- Check the summary (DNS shows We set it up (your Cloudflare)) and click Publish.
- Studio creates the zone and records in your Cloudflare account and shows the zone’s nameservers. Set them at your registrar if the domain doesn’t already use them. See Point your domain: DNS steps.
Troubleshooting
Section titled “Troubleshooting”- “That doesn’t look like a Cloudflare API token. Copy the whole token and try again.” The pasted value is incomplete or isn’t a token. Copy the full token again.
- “Cloudflare rejected this token…” The token is wrong, expired or missing a permission. Create a new custom token with Zone · Zone · Edit and Zone · DNS · Edit.
- “Too many attempts just now. Wait a minute and try again.” Wait a minute before saving again.
- “We couldn’t check your Cloudflare token just now.” Studio couldn’t reach the check. You can still continue with Xagio’s Cloudflare account, or add the records yourself.
- Continue is greyed out. Use my own Cloudflare account needs a saved token. Add one first.
- We couldn’t set up DNS automatically. Cloudflare refused to create the zone, for example because it already exists in another account. The message shows Cloudflare’s reason. Click Change how DNS is set up and choose I’ll do it myself, or fix the problem in Cloudflare and publish again.
A failed token save leaves any previously saved token in place.
