Host a website with Xagio: the setup wizard
Xagio Hosting runs your sites on managed servers. The setup wizard takes a domain you already own, sets up its DNS, optionally installs WordPress, and then creates the hosting account, database and SSL certificate for you. Hosted sites are billed in Xags each month.
Before you start
Section titled “Before you start”- You need a paid Xagio plan. Free accounts can open Hosting but cannot deploy a site.
- You need a domain you own and access to its registrar (to change nameservers or DNS records).
- You need enough Xags to pay the first month. See Hosting prices and monthly billing.
Start the wizard
Section titled “Start the wizard”- Open Hosting in the sidebar.
- Click Add Instance (or Host a website if you have no hosted sites yet).
Step 1: Domain
Section titled “Step 1: Domain”- Under Enter your existing domain name, type the root domain (for example
example.com, notwww.example.com). - Under How would you like to configure your domain DNS?, pick one:
- Add to Cloudflare: Xagio gives you nameservers to use. Cloudflare handles DNS, and you get its free CDN and security. Then choose Xagio’s Cloudflare account or My Cloudflare account (needs a saved API token, see Use your own Cloudflare account).
- Update DNS Manually: you point your domain’s A records straight to the server IP.
- Under Where should we deploy this site?, keep Shared hosting (a managed server is picked for you), or choose your own dedicated server if you have one. See Order a dedicated server.
- Click Continue.
Step 2: Setup
Section titled “Step 2: Setup”If you chose Add to Cloudflare:
- At your domain registrar, change the nameservers to the two shown under Configure Nameservers.
- Click Check Again until you see “Nameservers are correctly configured!”
If you chose Update DNS Manually:
- Copy the Server IP Address.
- At your DNS provider, add two A records:
@andwww, both pointing to that IP. - Click Check DNS until you see “Your domain is pointing to the correct IP address”.
Nameserver and DNS changes can take a while to spread. If the check fails, wait and try again.
Click Continue.
Step 3: WordPress
Section titled “Step 3: WordPress”Choose Yes, install WordPress (recommended for most websites) or No, skip installation if you will install something yourself later. The Monthly Cost for the site is shown here before you deploy.
Deploy
Section titled “Deploy”Xagio runs each step and shows its progress: Initializing, Creating User & Domain, Creating Database, Installing WordPress, Installing SSL Certificate and Finalizing. When you see Website Deployed Successfully!, the panel shows your WordPress Admin login and your Xagio Cloud login. Save them. You can see them again later under View Site Details & Credentials.
If you see SSL Warning (“The website was deployed but SSL could not be installed automatically.”), the site is live but needs SSL. See SSL for hosted sites.
If you leave before the setup finishes, click Continue Setup on the site in the Hosting list to pick up where you left off.
What it costs
Section titled “What it costs”Deploying charges the first month of hosting. After that, each site is billed once a month in Xags. See Hosting prices and monthly billing.
Troubleshooting
Section titled “Troubleshooting”- “Hosting instances require an active Xagio subscription. Please upgrade your plan.” Free accounts cannot deploy. Choose a plan.
- “Hosting instances require an active xRenew subscription. Please upgrade your plan to add hosting instances.” Your account has no xRenew balance. Hosting needs an active plan that grants monthly xRenew.
- “You don’t have enough XAGs. Required: …, Available: …” Top up your Xags, then deploy again. See Buying more Xags.
- “Please enter a root domain (e.g., example.com), not a subdomain (e.g., www.example.com).” Enter the domain without
wwwor any other subdomain. - “Please enter a valid domain name (e.g., example.com)” Check the spelling and the extension.
- “Sites on your own dedicated server must use your own Cloudflare account.” Choose My Cloudflare account, or add your token first.
- “Your account is … Hosting access has been disabled. Please contact support to reactivate your account.” Contact support.
