Cluster, seed, consolidate and de-duplicate keywords

A raw keyword list is rarely ready to become pages. These tools sort keywords into groups, so each group can become one page. All of them work inside the open project.

Phrase-match clustering groups keywords that share words. It is free.

  1. Open a project and select Keywords > Cluster Keywords. To cluster one group only, use Cluster Keywords in that group’s Actions menu.
  2. In Clustering, set the options:
    • Minimum Word Matches: how many words keywords must share to form a group (default 2).
    • Minimum Cluster Size: the fewest keywords a group can have (default 2).
    • Ignore Words Before Matching: words to leave out of group names, separated by commas. The three most common words are suggested.
    • Prepositions: include or leave out words such as “for”, “and”, “of” and “the” in group names.
  3. Under Select Keywords to Cluster, pick the keywords, or select Select All.
  4. Select Preview Cluster to see the groups first. You can rename a group in the preview.
  5. Optional: tick Cluster into a new project? and enter a project name to keep the original project unchanged.
  6. Select Cluster Keywords.
  1. Open a project. Tick the groups you want clustered, or leave all unticked to cluster every group.
  2. Select AI Clustering in the top bar.
  3. Review the Requesting AI Input window. It shows the Average XAGS cost for this is figure and your remaining Xags. Pick a prompt if there is more than one.
  4. Select Continue.

AI clustering runs in the background (“This can take a few minutes”). When it finishes, you see “AI clustering finished – reloading…” and the project reloads with new groups.

Seeding pulls every keyword that contains a phrase into a new group.

  1. Select Keywords > Seed Keywords, or Seed Keywords in a group’s Actions menu to search that group only.
  2. Enter a New Group name. If you leave it empty, the group takes the name of your first seed keyword.
  3. Enter Your seed keywords, separated by commas.
  4. Choose the match type with the switch:
    • Broad Match: matches the phrase anywhere, including inside other words (cat, cats, catapult, wildcat).
    • Phrase Match: matches the phrase as whole words only (cat).
  5. To create several groups at once, select Add Multiple Groups and fill in another row.
  6. Select Seed New Group.

You can also seed from the global keyword cloud. See Use the keyword cloud.

Consolidating moves every keyword in the project into one new group. This is useful before you re-cluster.

  1. Select Keywords > Consolidate Keywords.
  2. Enter a group name. If you leave it empty, the group is named “New Group - “ plus today’s date.
  3. Optional: turn on Remove empty groups?
  4. Select Consolidate.
  1. Select Keywords > De Duplicate Keywords.
  2. Select Continue to confirm.

When a keyword appears more than once in the project, Xagio keeps the copy with the highest volume (then CPC) and deletes the rest. The result tells you how many were deleted, or “No Duplicate Keyword found!”

  1. Tick the keywords.
  2. Select Move Keywords (in Keywords or the group’s Actions menu).
  3. Pick an existing group, or type a new group name, and select Continue.
  • Phrase-match clustering, seeding, consolidating, de-duplicating and moving: free.
  • AI clustering: 0.02 Xags per 1,000 tokens, multiplied by the prompt’s price factor. The average price shows before you run it. See the Xag price list.
  • “Please add some keywords first before trying to Cluster!”: the project or group has no keywords.
  • “You do not have enough AI Credits, please top up and try again!”: your Xag balance is below the average price shown.
  • “AI clustering is still running; please try again later.”: the job took longer than five minutes. Reload the project later.
  • “Upgrade your Account” window: your Xag balance (xRenew plus xBanks) is 0. Add Xags and try again. AI features are not limited by plan.
  • “Please enter any keyword in input fields!”: enter at least one seed keyword.
