Uptime monitoring and site alerts

Xagio checks each connected WordPress site about once an hour and records the response. You can see recent checks for each site, and turn on email alerts for when a site goes down or its SSL certificate expires. Uptime monitoring is free.

  1. Open Websites in the sidebar.
  2. Click Uptime Monitor on the site.

The monitor shows the current state (for example Up!), the next scheduled check, and Checks from Last 6 Days with the status code, page size and response time for each check.

A response with status code 200 or 503 does not trigger an alert. Any other code does, and the alert email explains it:

  • No response: “Your website is detected as offline. Meaning that our server failed to retrieve the response from your website.”
  • 3xx (redirect): “Your website is online but it is redirecting to a different location. Please make sure that there are not any plugin that may cause changes in .htaccess that could trigger these redirections.”
  • 4xx (not found): “Your website is online but cannot be found as the homepage is returning – Not Found – status code. Make sure that you have WordPress installed.”
  • 5xx (server error): “Your website is online but it has encountered an internal server error. Please resolve this issue as soon as possible as it could affect your website badly.”

You get one alert when the status code changes to a failing code, not one per check.

When a site responds normally, Xagio also checks that the Xagio plugin is still connected. If it is not, the site is marked Deactivated in your Websites list.

  1. Open Settings from the account menu.
  2. Open Email Notifications.
  3. Turn on Website Deactivation for uptime alerts (“A website fails its uptime check or gets deactivated.”).
  4. Turn on SSL Notification for alerts when a site’s SSL certificate has expired.

See Email notifications for every option.

Uptime monitoring is free.

  • “There was a problem retrieving uptimes. Please log out and log in again.” Sign out of the panel and sign back in.
  • No Uptime Monitor button on a site: the site has no scheduled check yet. It appears once the first check is scheduled.
  • A site keeps alerting with a 3xx code: a plugin or .htaccess rule is redirecting the homepage. Make the homepage load directly.
