Terminate a hosted site or remove WordPress from it

You have two ways to take a hosted site down. Terminate Instance removes the whole site: WordPress, the hosting account, the database and the Cloudflare DNS zone. Delete WordPress removes only WordPress and leaves an empty domain on your hosting, ready for a Studio site or anything else.

Both actions cannot be undone. If you might need the site later, download a copy first.

  1. Open Hosting in the sidebar.
  2. Click Terminate Instance (trash icon) on the site.
  3. Read the list of what will be permanently removed:
    • WordPress installation
    • Xagio Cloud user, domain & database
    • Cloudflare DNS zone
    • Database record
  4. Click Terminate.

You see “Instance terminated successfully.” The site stops being billed.

If the site never finished deploying, the dialog shows “You will be refunded: … XAGs” and that amount goes back to your balance. A site that finished deploying is not refunded.

  1. Open Hosting in the sidebar.
  2. Click View Site Details & Credentials on the site.
  3. Click Delete WordPress.
  4. Check what will be deleted (the WordPress files and the WordPress database) and what is kept (the domain, your Xagio Cloud hosting account, and Cloudflare DNS & zone).
  5. Click Delete WordPress to confirm.

You see “WordPress has been removed from this domain. The hosting account and domain are unchanged.” The site keeps being billed as a hosted site.

  • “WordPress database removed and details cleared, but the site files could not be reached automatically. They will be overwritten on the next publish.” The database is gone. Leftover files are replaced the next time you publish to the domain.
  • “No WordPress install found on this instance.” WordPress was already removed, or was never installed.
  • “Failed to terminate: …” Try again. If it keeps failing, contact support with the domain and the message.
