Publish changes to a live site
Edits you make in Studio after your site is live stay in Studio until you publish them. Publishing changes updates the live site on the same domain and hosting. There are no DNS or server steps the second time.
Know when you have unpublished changes
Section titled “Know when you have unpublished changes”When a live site has edits that aren’t published yet:
- The editor’s top bar shows PUBLISH CHANGES (in place of Publish).
- The project card in All projects is marked as edited since it was last published.
If the live site already matches Studio, there is no publish button in the top bar.
Publish your changes
Section titled “Publish your changes”- Open the site in the editor and click PUBLISH CHANGES.
- Check the summary: Website, Domain and DNS (Already set up).
- If some pages don’t have structured data yet, choose whether to generate it. See What it costs.
- Click Publish changes.
Studio shows Updating your live site while it puts your edits live. This usually takes a minute or two. You can close the window; it carries on in the background. The current live version is kept as a backup.
When it’s done you see Your changes are published and a Visit Site button.
You can also reopen the publish window on a live site from Publish. Its status screen has a Publish changes button.
What it costs
Section titled “What it costs”- No hosting charge. Your hosting is already paid.
- Structured data is charged per page, only for pages that don’t have it yet. Pages that already have it are included free.
See What a Studio project costs.
Changes that need a republish
Section titled “Changes that need a republish”All of these change the site in Studio and reach your domain only after you publish changes:
- edits in AI Chat or Live Edit
- restoring a version from History
- applying business info changes, including header scripts
- removing a page’s last keyword (its links are removed on rebuild)
Troubleshooting
Section titled “Troubleshooting”- Publishing stopped. The message under it gives the reason. See Fix publishing problems.
- We couldn’t confirm your DNS. Your domain stopped pointing to Xagio. Studio shows the nameservers or records again with Check again. Your changes go live once the domain points back.
- We couldn’t confirm the current state. Your changes may still be publishing. Click Check again in a moment before trying anything else.
