Build schema with the Schema builder
Schema is structured data that tells search engines and AI tools what a page is about: your business, services, products, reviews or events. The Schema builder in the Xagio panel lets you build it by filling in fields instead of writing code. You save each schema to a group, and the Xagio plugin assigns it to pages on your WordPress site.
Before you start
Section titled “Before you start”- Your plan needs the Schemas feature. If it doesn’t, the page shows a disabled overlay.
- Create a schema group for the website first, or import one group per website. See Schema groups.
Create a schema
Section titled “Create a schema”- In the sidebar, under BUILD, select Schemas.
- Under What do you want to describe?, pick a type: Company, Service, Product, Article / blog post, FAQ page, Event, Person, Recipe or Website. For any other type, select Browse all schema types.
- Fill in the fields you need. Leave the others empty: empty fields are left out of the code. To see every field, turn on Show all fields. To add one, type it in Add another field.
- For a field that holds another schema (for example an address inside a business), pick or create that schema for the field.
- In Name, enter a name for the schema, for example “Main business info”.
- In Website, pick the group (website) it belongs to.
- Select Save schema.
The schema appears under Saved schemas, grouped by website. Use Find a schema… to search it.
Use shortcodes in fields
Section titled “Use shortcodes in fields”Fields can hold shortcodes that the plugin fills in for each page. Select Shortcodes on the Schemas page to open the list and copy one. Some examples:
| Shortcode | Replaced with |
|---|---|
%%sitename%% |
The site’s name |
%%siteurl%% |
The site’s URL |
%%currurl%% |
The current URL |
%%title%% |
The title of the post or page |
%%ps_seo_title%% |
The Xagio SEO title |
%%ps_seo_description%% |
The Xagio SEO description |
%%excerpt%% |
The post or page excerpt |
%%date%% |
The date of the post or page |
The full list is in the Shortcode List window. See also Schema shortcodes.
Set map coordinates
Section titled “Set map coordinates”For a GeoCoordinates schema, you can pick the latitude and longitude on a map. Select Pick on map, search for the location or click the point on the map, then select Use Current Longitude and Latitude.
Preview the code
Section titled “Preview the code”Open a saved schema and select Preview code. The Rendered Schema window shows the JSON-LD code. Select Copy to copy it.
Duplicate or delete a schema
Section titled “Duplicate or delete a schema”In the saved schemas list, right-click a schema:
- Duplicate makes a copy with a number added to its name.
- Remove deletes it. Right-clicking a group and selecting Remove deletes the group and every schema in it.
Use the schema on your site
Section titled “Use the schema on your site”Schemas you save here are available in the Xagio plugin. In WordPress, open a page’s On-Page SEO box, go to the Schema tab and assign the schema. See Assign panel schema to a page.
What it costs
Section titled “What it costs”Building, saving and validating schema in the panel is free. Generating schema with AI in the plugin is charged separately. See what every action costs.
Troubleshooting
Section titled “Troubleshooting”- “Please select a Schema Group before saving.” Pick the group (website) for the schema, then save.
- “You must define a Schema Name before saving it.” Enter a name, then save.
- “You first have to load a saved schema in order to render it.” Save the schema, or open a saved one, before previewing.
- “You can search the Map only while editing “GeoCoordinates” schema.“ Open a GeoCoordinates schema first.
- “Oops! This property does not support custom schemas!” That field takes a plain value, not another schema.
